Spore Powder of Ganoderma lucidum Improves Cancer-Related Fatigue in Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Endocrine Therapy: A Pilot Clinical Trial
Hong Zhao, et al.
Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2012
This clinical trial shows that Ganoderma spore powder relieved fatigue, anxiety and depression brought on by endocrine therapy in the test subjects. The spores had helpful effects on the immune system of the patients undergoing endocrine therapy with no side-effects.

A water-soluble extract from culture medium of Ganoderma lucidum mycelia
suppresses the development of colorectal adenomas.

Okas et al
Hiroshima Journal of Medical Science 2010
Clinical study showing that Ganoderma water extract reduced size and number of colorectal adenomas over 12 months.

Randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled study of the immunodulatory effects of Lingzhi in children with cancers
MK Shing et al
Journal of Clinical Oncology 2008
A 6 month treatment with Lingzhi increases mitogen-induced lymphoproliferative responses in immunocompromised children with cancers.

Ganoderma was effective and significantly superior to placebo for improving
international prostate symptom score (IPSS) –

Regression of gastric large B-Cell lymphoma accompanied by a florid lymphoma-like T-cell reaction: immunomodulatory effect of Ganoderma lucidum (Lingzhi)?
Wah W Cheuk et al 2007
Report of a complete regression of a high-grade lymphoma likely due to Ganoderma stimulating t-cell production.

Monitoring of immune responses to a herbal immuno-modulator in patients with advanced colorectal cancer
Chen X et al
International Immunopharmacology 2006
Patients with advanced colorectal cancer were given 5.4g of Ganderma per day over a 12 week period. 41 out of the 47 patients showed increases in immune cells (lymphocytes) suggesting Ganoderma may have potential immuno-modulating effect in patients with advanced colorectal cancer.

Ganoderma lucidum ('Lingzhi'); acute and short-term biomarker response to supplementation.
Wachtel-Galor S,et al
Int J Food Sci Nutr 2004
In a human double-blind, placebo controlled study, shows that plasma antioxidant capacity rose rapidly to a peak of 90 minutes. Results indicate that Lingzhi intake causes an acute increase in plasma antioxidant capacity. No deleterious effects on measured variables were seen.

Ganoderma lucidum (Lingzhi), a Chinese medicinal mushroom: biomarker
responses in a controlled human supplementation study

Wachtel-Galor S et al
British Journal of Nutrition (2004)
Results of this trial showed that there are no side-effects to taking Ganoderma. There was no evidence of liver, renal or DNA toxicity with Ganoderma intake.

Cultivation, Utlization, and Medicinal Effects of Ganoderma Lucidum in Malaysia
Teow Sun-Soo
MARA Institute of Technology 2004.
Summary of various human trials – on leukaemia, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis B.

Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia (2004, Teow Sun-Soo) Cancer patients were given high doses of Ganoderma while undergoing chemotherapy. All the patients experienced changes in their WBC, haemoglobin and platelet counts which were either significant or very significant after 3 months of treatment.

Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (2004 Teow Sun-Soo) – Patients with stage 3 cancer experienced complete remission of their cancer (significant tumor shrinkage after 40 days of combined chemotherapy and Ganoderma and complete regression after 90 days) Reduced side-effects were observed regarding nausea/vomiting and pain and increased energy, sleep and appetite were also observed.

A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Multicenter Study of
Ganoderma lucidum

Yihuai Guo et al
International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms 2003
68 patients with advanced lung cancer were given Ganoderma. Compared to the control group, after 12 weeks these patients showed a significant increase in lymphocytemitogenic reactivity (increase in natural killer cells).

Advanced-stage Cancer (Gao Y. et al, Massey University, NZ 2003) – 34 patients with advanced stage cancer were given Ganoderma for 12 weeks. Results showed significantly enhanced immune responses which ordinarily are reduced or damanged in patients undergoing chemotherapy/radiotherapy. This confirms the in vivo studies that Ganoderma polysaccharides are able to activate macrophages, T lymphocytes and NK cells.

Effects of ganopoly (a Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide extract) on the immune functions in advanced-stage cancer patients
Gao Y et al
Immunological Investigations 2003
In late stage of cancer patients, NK (Natural Killer cell) activity is significantly
decreased. Evidence also indicates that immune function can be reduced or damaged in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy, resulting in a further decrease in cytotoxic T lymphocyte and NK activity. The results of this study in advanced-stage cancer patients show a significant increase in the mean plasma concentrations of interleukin and interferon. This study indicates that Ganoderma significantly enhanced the immune response in patients with advanced-stage cancer.
